Welcome.
I’m a graduate from Minnesota State University, Moorhead with a major in evolutionary and ecological biology. I chose this academic venture because I’ve always enjoyed observing natural environments, and it also exposed me to a diverse course catalog because I wasn’t sure where my interests would lie. My favorite study subject is entomology because of the crazy diversity of arthropods and evolutionary paths it has taken.
Photography has always been my favorite form of exploration. It allows me to see things from a variety of perspectives from sweeping landscapes to a blown up eye cluster on a jumping spider. My exploration doesn’t stop at the lens though, but goes as deep as human psychology. I enjoy pondering the whys and hows of social dynamics, and continually learning that nothing is ever quite as black and white as it appears.
My career has taken a non-traditional route, from contract work such as building construction, temporary work like seasonal waterfowl surveys, and permanent career path jobs like Caris Lifesciences. There are things that I enjoyed about each task I’ve done, and the foremost of those are education. I really like learning new things. If I’m not engaged in actively pursuing a solution, I get bored and move on. I’m truly a student of life and want to learn as much as I can. Another motivating factor is trying to figure out simple solutions to complex problems (Occam’s razor) or system analysis, and trying to find an out-of-the-box solution.
I like to organize and I tend to spend a lot of time doing that. The only place where escape from that is possible, is when I’m outdoors. My favorite hobbies are fishing and hiking and when I’m not out doing that, I’m dreaming about doing it. I’m still trying to find a way to put my passion for biology, the outdoors, and my organizational abilities into a paying venture. Someday I will discover it, with a goal of teaching others how to get there.
